Our client based in the East Rand is looking for a Fitter/ Turner to be responsible for basic mechanical maintenance of manufacturing equipment for Rigids – Paper Cups and providing support to the Setters, when required, during product changeovers. Also responsible for the successful tool changes of all paper cup forming machines and the extruder/ thermoformed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Trade tested fitter and turner
Minimum 5 years, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Conversant with electrical drawings
Experience in hydraulics and pneumatics will be an advantage
Self-starter with initiative.
Willingness to learn and upgrade skills
Prepared to do shift work and be on standby when required.
Live within a 25-km radius from the area
Coordinates own activities to meet objectives effectively and efficiently and uses own time effectively
Is able to swiftly adjust to ever changing demands
High level of discipline, adhering at all times to procedures and instructions
Innovative in problem solving to execute instructions
The Fitter/ Turner has to ensure that daily work schedules, tool change schedules and preventative maintenance schedules, prepared by the Maintenance Foreman, are effectively and efficiently implemented, minimizing machine downtime.
Fault finding and fault analysis, without supervision.
Identifying opportunities for improvements.
All basic mechanical repairs to production machines. This includes the stripping and servicing of machines, checking of bearings and drives and provision of lubrication to machines. Repairs requiring more specialized skills are escalated to the Maintenance Foreman.
Completes tool and die changes
Attends to problems relating to tool and die set-ups, escalated by the Setters. Assists Setters in attending to breakdowns as per instructions from the Maintenance Foreman.
Draws parts required for completion of maintenance activities from the maintenance store and informs Maintenance Foreman when stock needs replenishing.
Assists with the installation of new equipment.
Provides input into annual maintenance planning
Completes records (job cards, timesheets).
Complete turning jobs on lathes, milling machines and surface grinders that are not sub-contracted. These are usually due to machine breakdowns and work required over weekends and public holidays.
Ensures adherence to safe working practices
Adheres to good housekeeping practices whilst working on machines and in the workshop
Reports any unsafe acts or conditions to Maintenance Foreman
The above tasks are not exhaustive and it is expected that the Fitter will attend to any reasonable demands, other than the aforementioned, and within the capability of the position holder.
