The purpose of the job is to implement and maintain ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 500001 management system. Assist with monitoring to ensure that the Plant complies with applicable health, safety and environmental laws, regulations, and standards. The role will also help implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures that are required or adopted and work to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain procedures/policies/standards/work instructions/safe systems of work.
Audits/assessment of programmes to identify deficiencies.
Contractor monitoring to ensure safe working practices and compliance to legal requirements
Perform any other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position
Attending seminars and reading professional journals Organisational structure
Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace and considering how risks could be reduced.
Coordinate and develop the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis.
Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
Carrying out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
Provide advice and counsel concerning all applicable legal compliance.
Ensure control measures are maintained regarding fire prevention and protection, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and safe behaviour.
Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that are safe and comply with legislation to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
Conduct in-house training about health and safety issues and risks.
Coordinate EHS Committee meetings.
Ensure implementation of environmental compliance programs related to hazardous wastes, air, water and ground pollution control.
Assist with Incident/accident investigations and ensure records are kept
Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all applicable legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry;
Maintain and update EHS legal and other appointments
Keep accurate records
Assist in new employee EHS induction.
Recommend the purchase of safety equipment.

Qualifications/ knowledge/ experience
(Technical/ professional knowledge and skills competency)
Grade 12 certificate and Safety / Risk Management / Environmental Science diploma / degree or equivalent qualification (Essential)
3 to 4 years continuous experience as EHS Officer in engineering/ chemical / aviation industry
Technical Knowledge – HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment), incident investigation, Computer literacy – Microsoft office, EHS Legislation, (Auditing) (Essential)
Specialisation – OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001Transition Course (Essential)
