A global management consulting firm with offices in Africa, Europe and Australia is looking for an in-house Corporate Attorney to join their growing team. In this role you will be working closely with the wider legal team (based in Australia) as well as directly with a variety of internal clients including at Director level and senior staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
They have a lean legal team who supports a fast paced and rapidly growing global consulting business. This role will be suited to a person who thrives on variety, likes to take on new challenges and is looking to apply their legal training in a commercial environment.
While the successful incumbent will be based in the Johannesburg office, and likely will become the “go to” for the client’s African business, you will be supporting the global consulting business which spans Australia, USA, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Russia, South East Asia and the Middle East. While you will be backed by a truly collegiate and supportive team, you will have the confidence to deal directly with the most senior members of the business, third party service providers, external counsel and negotiate directly with clients.
You will be responsible for giving advice covering a wide range of areas with primary legal tasks involving:
Reviewing, drafting and negotiating client contracts, which will also include foreign contracts, across a range of industry sectors.
Providing legal support, drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements including NDAs, supplier agreements, consents, letters.
Tracking compliance and progress of a large number of contracts and engagements globally.
Ensuring the delivery of accurate and commercial legal advice to the business across a range of disciplines.
Identifying legal risks and identifying opportunities to provide legal input in line with business strategies.
There will be the opportunity to be involved in a range of disciplines including intellectual property, data and privacy, training, dispute resolution, employment and compliance and risk. We would support an interest in becoming a specialist in one or more of these areas.
This role will suit a genuinely commercial lawyer who, without compromising on accuracy, can demonstrate the ability to provide advice in the form the relevant business unit requires it – no 3000 word memos of advice here – our business moves fast and the legal team needs to keep up.
Problem-solving ability: identifies problems and proposes commercial solutions. Finds ways to work smarter, not harder; seeks help to address emerging issues before they create a problem.
Prioritisation: We are a lean legal team servicing a fast paced business – this is exciting but requires an ability to identify business critical work and ruthlessly prioritise.
Commercial Law competence and pragmatic commercial judgement: it is critical that you are able to demonstrate a clear ability to apply a commercial approach without compromising the quality of your advice.
Interpersonal skills: strong ability to engage effectively with a number of internal stakeholders e.g. directors/consultants and senior internal staff.
Results Focus: tracks progress and recognises when a change of approach or escalation are required to deliver on time; identifies and drives process improvements.
Dealing with Change: ability to deal with ambiguity and multiple, constantly changing priorities.
Attention to Detail: builds error checking into own workflow.
