TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Main Purpose – Training of operatives and staff to attain full job competence. To effectively manage training activities at the factory to support the business strategy and attainment of strategic targets and improvement in the factory performance both from a quality and output perspective through improved employee knowledge, skills and competency
Duties & Responsibilities
Annual Training Needs Analysis and Budgeting.
To assess the needs of required training for the forthcoming year. Compilation of budget to affect this training for final approval. This is inclusive of quality / technical requirements, functional, supervisory / management and legislative requirements.
Produce training reports which depicts training that has taken place over the past year, inclusive of the skills matrixes for each specified area.
Conducts meetings with all department managers to assess training for the past year utilising the training report and determining needs for the forthcoming year.
Individuals are then nominated by managers for the various training initiatives. These nominations are populated into SAP and Individual Development Plans (IDP) created.
Obtain quotations for the following training types an populated into the training budget
- Legislative requirements
1.5. Develop the draft of the Workplace Skills Plan and annual training report for the factory.
Administration and Communication
Communicate with MANCOM and Line Managers, Employees to effect the Workplace Skills Plan. (Aligned with the merSETA requirements)
Agrees the factory training plan with MANCOM and the Training Committee.
Agrees a comprehensive Skills Development Plan in line with the multiskilling requirements identified.
Produces various reports of training conducted in specified periods and or types of training conducted. This includes budget variance reports.
Meets with MANCOM monthly to give feedback on the effectiveness of the previous month’s training, with particular focus on multiskilling and effective training of operatives.
Supports the company’s strategy of continuous improvement towards world class manufacturing
Actions any quality findings that may arise and ensures that the appropriate sign off takes place. This requires interaction with cross functional teams, completion and amendment of various documents and communication to affected parties.
Prepares all documents required for the annual TS16949 audit and represent the training department along with the Group Manager: Organisational Development.
Multiskilling and Skills Development.
To increase skills in the factory equipping the factory with a versatile skills base. Increase the talent pool to support the overall business strategy of growth.
Develops and reviews the multiskilling program on a regular basis. Implements the plan and monitors the progress.
Implements developments plans aligned to the Workplace Skills Plan, Employment Equity Plan and BBBEE strategy. Development opportunities encompass various merSETA qualifications: Apprenticeships, Learnerships (unemployed & employed), Skills programs, In-Service Trainees, and RPL initiatives.
Continuously mentors learners during the year as required. Deals with all issues pertaining to capacity and or discipline.
Oversees the compilation of Portfolios of Evidence in line with the merSETA regulations for learners. This is also required for employees who are on our recognition of prior learning (RPL) program.
Ensure all details and progress of new learners are captured onto SAP.
Management of the Training Team
Attendance & Time sheets, and people management
Agrees annual KRAs with team members aligned to the training plan.
Review team member’s performance, identify and provide coaching and or training to team members as required in order to enhance effectiveness of the team and create a positive work environment.
Adherence to Original Equipment Requirements
Annually reviews the specific OEM requirements and develops a comprehensive plan for the year
Overall Talent Management of the Ladysmith Factory
Career discussions with Line Management regarding their teams.
Compilation and implementation of an overall development plan for the identified talent.
Management of the monthly budget
Constant monitoring of all expenses to ensure budgets are not exceeded.
Prepare a monthly reconciliation of the budget.
Review budget varience
Desired Experience & Qualification
Degree in Human Resources Management specialising in Training and Development
Education, Training and Development Practitioners Certificate, Skills Development Facilitator specific requirements to update merSETA documentation, CLO tracking reports, Assessor and Moderator Qualification. Quality Training such as FMEA, TS16949 and other similar qualifications. In depth knowledge of the operation of tyre manufacturing.
Minimum Experience required for the job:
5 years experience in the training field and 2 years in a managerial position.
Preferable Experience required for the job:
Microsoft Office, SAP, Assessor and Moderator experience.
