This is an opportunity within the core actuarial team of one of SA's largest healthcare administrators and to be mentored by some of the top healthcare actuaries in the country. The role focuses on a wide
variety of actuarial functions necessary to suppor Group Health’s business objectives.
The role also provides exposure to the roup Data Science Lab, a team which applies predictive analytics, big data and operations research skills, to run and to support key projects for the Group and for
the individual business units. The successful applicant will work in a highly specialized team of actuaries and data scientists who regularly interact with the Group Executives, Medical Scheme Boards of Trustees, external actuaries, brokers and regulators.
Duties & Responsibilities
The role involves the following responsibilities:
Perform the reserving, pricing and other statutory functions for the Health Medical Scheme,
SA's largest medical scheme. These functions play a key role in balancing affordability of contributions and financials robustness of the scheme.
Perform a complete range of actuarial services for other niche medical schemes, such as long term strategy and annual valuations.
Perform financial projections for other businesses within Health as part of the Health Exco’s long term growth strategy.
Influence healthcare policy in the industry by preparing and presenting evidence of healthcare trends using Discovery's experience.
Assist with the pricing of exciting new Health products before their launch.
Perform studies to quantify the impact that Vitality has on healthcare claims to position
Vitality as a global leader among incentivised wellness programmes.
Assist international partners in Europe, Asia and North America with Vitality integration into their health businesses.
Identify and build appropriate models to predict risk, sales and savings for implementation across the
Present data and model findings in a way that provides actionable insights for business users.
Develop actuarial students' knowledge of the healthcare industry and wider businesses
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualified Actuary. Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa or Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. 10 Years experience plus, with at least 5 years in a Healthcare Experience in Actuarial Modelling, profit testing, reinsurance optimisation, data analytics, experience analysis, strategy development, problem solving, mathematical and statistical reasoning .
