Job Description:
Principal accountabilities
Duties and responsibilities may be extended at management request; therefore essential functions may include but are not limited to:
Accountable for meeting weekly production targets as per the production line plan by working through the team members on shift.
Ensure that the day to day management of staff is done on a shift by shift basis so as to ensure there is sufficient shift cover, ensure adequate training for new staff, handling leave for engineers, etc.
Troubleshooting: provide the necessary support to staff on shift so as to ensure minimal process problems that may result in unnecessary downtime and compromised quality, handling mass balance issues.
Project co-ordination, ie. Ensure follow up of current projects, approval of new projects and timing of projects.
Ensure effective training of all subordinates, ie. operators
Conform to company safety and environmental requirements by ensuring that all personnel adhere to procedures at all times. Zero man-hours lost due to injury
Zero nonconformance to legal requirements (ISO14001)
Ensures that staff conforms to company’s quality and performance standards and meet or exceeding the set objectives.
The team leader is involved in all the deviations that hinder the line meeting its targets e.g.
People management
Washcoat availability
Equipment availability
Lean systems
EHS
To carry out any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Scope
Manage the team of Line Leaders and their subordinates across a multi shift operation.
Has the responsibility for controlling the usage of raw materials including Substrates, Washcoats, PGM’s and all side streams
Optimise the use of production equipment and ensuring that nominal status is maintained at all times.
Has the responsibility of planning weekly and day to day operations and controlling the plan against production schedules
Uses initiative to ensure effective and efficient Operation according to defined Goals and Objectives.
Overall responsible for the plant across shift performance.

Line leaders report directly to this position but responsibility for entire department
All internal and support departments
Special factors
Requirements may change at any given time at the discretion of the area manager or superior.
May be required to work shifts from time to time.
Would be required to carry company cell phone and be available after hours.

Qualifications/ knowledge/ experience

3-year tertiary qualification in Chemical / in Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering or equivalent
Essential
At least 3 years’ experience in Production.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervising people.

Proven record of experience in adhering to Company code of conduct

Computer literacy and knowledge of in-house information systems such as PLC and SPC/PDT and WRMS and SAP and MES
