Duties & Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to forecast, analyse and document economic conditions affecting industry and business.
Forecasting and analysis of countries, industries, and regions; Prepare written analysis.
Develop econometric models
Develop methods and procedures for collecting and processing data, utilizing knowledge of available sources of data and various econometric and sampling techniques.
Compile data relating to research area, such as exports, sector productivity, national content, development strategies of other countries, etc.
Review and analyse economic data in order to prepare reports detailing results of investigation.
Organise data into report format and arrange for preparation of graphic illustrations of research findings.
Extract data from literature and primary sources to prepare and present to management.
Report on fundamental and cyclical aspects of the South African/international economy to management and clients.
Provide macroeconomic insights in order to assist in the fundamental sector and company research.
Analysis and feedback on major free trade agreements (impact on countries, sectors, timing, etc).
Analysis and feedback on major legislation and the impact on various sectors. Analysis and feedback on export credit insurance industry transformational initiatives. Prepare Quarterly Economic strategy reports. This will include both a South African and a Global economic write-up. This must be presented to Executives on a quarterly basis.
Write articles for external publications and provide comments on current issues in various media channels.
Data modelling and forecasting.
Technical reports writing and presentation.
Strategic ad hoc research & analysis.
Interaction with internal & external clients & stakeholders.
Desired Experience & Qualification
At least 5 years of relevant experience.
Masters degree/PhD in Economics majoring in Economics History/ Macro Economics, Econometrics/ Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
Ability to research and analyse companies and their industries in which they operate in.
Advanced Microsoft (Excel /Word), Basic Programming skills and usage of econometric models.
Ability to utilise Bloomberg, Inet and Reuters Terminal Services.
Demonstration of previous published articles is a requirement.
Package & Remuneration
R750 000 – R850 000 p.a negotiable on experience and qualifications.
