Industrial Relations Manager_Well established company who provides services and undertakes a variety of projects in the Construction sector to take responsibility for all site related industrial relations and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation (initial Temp Contract)

Purpose and Scope:
The IR Manager will be responsible for all site related industrial relations and ensuring that they comply with all relevant legislation.
The list of responsibilities below is not intended to be exhaustive. Other duties or tasks may be assigned from time to time that are within the capabilities of the job incumbent.
Participate in Company Lean Management Programme and establish “best practice” for development.
Carry out a thorough review of all processes and procedures currently being used by the Company and review where improvements could be made to increase efficiency.
Mitigate IR risk by resolving any industrial related action on project sites
Resolve all blue-collar employee issues
Liaise and or meet with employees and or their representatives (including trade unions) in order to: foster maintain (or where necessary, regain) industrial harmony; and or give effect to and comply with relevant labour legislation, determinations and awards.
Assist directors and managers in the application of the company disciplinary and grievance procedures.
Assist the HR Manager with all site based salaried employee relations issues
Represent the company in external dispute resolution proceedings such as at the CCMA or the MEIBC and or where necessary, brief representatives from the legal profession to represent the company in such proceedings and / or in the Labour Court.
Maintain the conditions of employment according to MEIBC, Project Labour Agreements (some at power stations) and BCEA
Co-ordinate and attend monthly in-house shop steward meetings and union requests where needed
Attend all IR meetings with clients / stakeholders
Co-ordinate and attend all CDR cases
Apply discipline as per the requirements of any site / company policies and procedures
Submission of monthly IR disciplinary and cost analysis reports
Monitor site absenteeism where needed
Facilitate working and overtime exemption hours
Co-ordinate all and assist with all audits where needed
Employment Equity and Skills Development:
Co-ordinate and attend all employment equity and skills development meetings when requested by the HR Manager
Identify training / skills / competency needs within the organisation with the IR structure and advise the HR Manager
Identify skills shortages and where there is a need to improve and inform the Project Manager
General Personnel Administration
Manage the IR Department and supervise and assist employees in the department
Ensure all information is readily available in all personnel files
Assist Project Manager with all blue collared employee recruitment where required
The IR Manager will report to the HR Manager. The IR Manager as a support responsibility to all other directors and managers.
All personnel within the site IR Departments report functionally to the IR Manager
Education / Training
Three year completed degree relevant to Personnel / Human Resources / Labour Law function
An additional qualification in Labour Relations Management would be preferential.
Working knowledge of the various acts that make up the SA labour legislation
Working knowledge of the MEIBC conditions of employment
Advanced computer skills
Advanced report writing skills
Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
Working knowledge of the Power Stations’ partnership agreement would be an advantage
Working knowledge of the Skills Development Act and Employment Equity Act
A minimum of 6 plus years Site Industrial Relations / Employee Relations Manager experience is required.
Head office based with extensive travel to all project sites (60% of job travel).
