Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance and coordination of the Quality Management System to maintain statutory compliance to the prescribed legal requirements in the Food industry.
Coordinating and assisting with technical training and overall competency to management and employees with regards to the operational aspects of the food safety program, pest control, environmental, operational methods and personnel practices, and maintenance for food safety and hygiene/cleaning practices.
Successfully complete food supplier audits, identifying corrective actions required and escalation of major concerns and ensure action there of as required.
Co-ordinate the ongoing development requirements of the department’s Quality program and compliance including carrying out internal audits.
Nurture good working relationships both within and across departments under the food Safety programme.
Ensure that all registers and records and documentation relating to Food safety are maintained.
Responsible for management of own workload and the QC department work responsibilities.
Ensure the promotion of awareness of customer requirements pertaining to food safety throughout the organisation.
Assemble and appoint the Food Safety Team(s) as needed, manage and coordinate the food safety team’s work.
Co-ordinate preparation of Flow Diagrams for each product / process category covered by the FSMS, including verification of the accuracy of those diagrams.
Lead review of food safety related process hazards for the facility/site periodically to ensure potential food safety hazards have been adequately addressed and controlled, report results of analysis to top management.
Implement, manage and maintain the Quality Assurance program to ensure compliance to HACCP, customer and company requirements.
Ensure QC tests method and procedures are conforming to National Standards.
Monitor QC result trends and ensure that the problems are dealt with efficiently and on time.
Ensure that relevant equipment is effectively maintained and calibrated.
Organize Food Safety review meetings and report/communicate on performance, effectiveness and suitability of the quality management system (QMS) and needs for any improvement communicate changes to senior management, Food Safety team members & general staff where required.
Initiate and supervise product recalls, to ensure adequate implementation and effectiveness.
Investigate and resolve internal and external product quality issues.
Formal corrective action and or investigation, to rectify the system, a task, process, product or persons behaviour with a clear indication of the problem and thorough documentation of the resources and steps required to mitigate the immediate symptoms, with the primary goal to solve the root causes of the
problem.
Attend to customer complaints, investigate and report back within strict deadlines.

Desired Experience & Qualification
Grade 12
National Diploma in Food Technology or equivalent
At least 3years industry related experience of which 1 year must be in a junior – middle management role.
At least 5 years industry related experience in the Food Quality regulations environment.
Thorough knowledge of relevant and applicable South African SHEQ legislation.
