Provide site wide Quality functional leadership, setting and deploying Quality vision and values in line with Local, Regional and Sector Strategy
Ensure the site quality management system enables and controls operations to robustly meet all regulatory and customer requirements, in pursuit of zero defects and a right first-time culture.
Champion improving site quality performance through effective problem solving; elimination of root causes and a drive to Build in Quality (BIQ) as opposed to inspect it in.
Monitoring and reporting our quality performance
Responsible for implementing, controlling and monitoring of the company Quality Control and Quality Assurance Management Systems as well as the Laboratory testing facility
Specifically focus on changing the current Quality System to align with and reflect the development of SAP business management systems and the Lean Manufacturing system aimed at meeting “COMPANY”’s strategic business goals.
Facilitate the roll-out of Lean Manufacturing into the business.
Responsible for Quality Control, CI, Quality Assurance and Laboratory
Develops and controls Budgets for reporting departments including CAPEX
Ensure the Quality Department observes highest level of EHS
Ensure Quality Management System is developed and maintained to meet all internal and external requirements
Maintain top level site Quality KPIs. Define, Set Targets with Stakeholders and Record and Report
To ensure only conforming finished products are shipped to the customer, in accordance with specification
To ensure that the Quality Policy is adhered to and the business unit quality systems are set up to achieve the quality policy goals
To manage Quality and Laboratory testing functions of “COMPANY” Germiston
Member of the Site Quality Management team
Lead/Participate/Champion Continuous Improvement Activities and Projects
Liaise with relevant business unit managers, Sales, Technology and Quality personnel to improve adherence to operating standards in all business activities after Start of Production, i.e. improve the flexibility and dependability of both QA and QC at “COMPANY”.
Ensure “COMPANY”’s Quality System is changed to reflect the key Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement processes and ensure the entire company operates in accordance with this revised Quality System.
Responsible for identifying standards of all working process in the company and ensure that they are applied in a consistent manner
Ensure integration of Company listed Quality Standards and customer specific requirements
Ensure that Quality and Laboratory staff are skilled and trained in accordance with Quality standards and requirements.
Ensure that Quality Management System is accessible and regularly updated and maintain, including audited
Responsible for Quality Control department, Quality Assurance and Laboratory functions
Identifying future needs and requirements for QA/QC and Laboratory
Appointed company and customer representatives as required by “COMPANY” Quality system
Quality Status of “COMPANY” product
Planning, Organising and Collaboration:
Collaborate with commercial and act a point of contact for Germiston Plant with external customers.
Collaborate with teams and stakeholders introducing new products to ensure quality standard are met from launch.
Support operational objectives to reduce wastage, install 5s philosophy and reduce non-unit-based costs
Ensure ISO/TS Certification is Achieved and maintained
Engage in customer audits to ensure there are adequate quality controls to conform to TS and VDA requirements
Operates within highly complex manufacturing site, multiple shifts, lines and products with complex quality requirements.
In collaboration with Plant Manager as part of Senior Management team, inputs into and works within the overall Germiston Operations strategy.
Freedom to Act:
Authority to stop production where there is view that product is at risk of not meeting requirements
Develop skills of the Quality & Laboratory team to promote accurate and professional operations in all areas of responsibility
Leading and developing quality and laboratory teams.
Prepare and control operational budgets to help achieve site targets
Control of “COMPANY”’s Quality Systems and Laboratories
Decisions made regarding upgrading and maintaining of Quality systems.
Decision made regarding the Quality status of “COMPANY” product
Specify “COMPANY” traceability system
Any systemic changes to comply with Customer Specific Requirements as well as listed standard requirements
Quality improvement processes in all areas.
OEMS, Canners, “COMPANY” ECT Quality, “COMPANY” Customer Account Managers, “COMPANY” Sales, Finance, Logistics, Quality, Technical Services, Projects and Production Departments.

Tertiary Qualification in Quality
In depth knowledge of “COMPANY” Quality Systems
In depth knowledge of Lean manufacturing & Continuous Improvement processes.
Highly computer literate (Microsoft Office, IsoSoft, Ms Access etc).
Familiarity with “COMPANY”’s products
Proven people and team management capabilities
Proven change management capabilities.
Knowledge of test methods and procedures used in “COMPANY” Laboratories
Knowledge of ISO TS 16949 / Formal Q / Q1 / ISO 9001:2000 and related customer specific systems and requirements related to the motor Industry. Formal Qualification in at least ISO 9001:2000 as well as ISO TS 16949 as a minimum
Extensive knowledge and experience of “COMPANY” washcoat systems / application methods
Experience with regards to managing people on shift
Qualification in Statistics
1st and 2nd party audit experience
Methodical and facts driven approach to problem solving
