Job Description:
JOB PURPOSE
Our client is looking for an organized and professional Payroll Officer
The ideal candidate would be a strong administrator, a confident, self-motivated individual who consistently strives for excellence
The successful candidate will be required to manage a high volume workload, have the ability to manage their own time and work to deadlines
The successful candidate will join a successful, well established business, working with an energetic and fast moving team
Job purpose: Process monthly and bi-weekly payrolls on SAGE People for 600 employees
FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll:
Process payroll account transactions (e.g. salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes and third party payments)
Processing of payroll changes (e.g. new hires, terminations, increases) and system upgrades
Ensure all cell phone and travel information is timeously received and checked for accuracy
Manage shifts on Time and Attendance system for payment of healthcare staff and calculate shifts owing
Calculate overtime and short time
Analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization
Collaborate with Human Resources and accounting teams
Maintain accurate records
Research, analyse and solve payroll related queries
Leave (ESS):
Follow up on leave applications and ensure it is imported into the system
Verify leave applications
Approve leave applications to ensure it reflects accurately on the system
Leave recons on termination and on request
Upkeep and management of the employee self-service system
Time & Attendance:
Maintain the timekeeping system. Adjust all clocking changes received via adjustment forms
Follow up on bad clocking’s
Weekly and monthly clocking recons
Manage employee rosters
Administration & Reporting:
Be responsible for record keeping (hard copy and electronic)
Ensure termination checklists are complete
Maintain employee personal details
General HR administrative tasks within the department
Responsible for file audit project
REQUIREMENTS
Matric / Senior Certificate
Relevant payroll / HR qualification - advantageous
A minimum of 3 years payroll experience (previous experience with SAGE People advantageous)
Experience in working on excel spreadsheets
Bargaining council (BIBC) experience advantageous
Experience in and knowledge on time & attendance software
Basic HR knowledge
Knowledge of provisions of Basic Conditions of Employment Act
Statutory and legislative requirements in respect of PAYE, UIF, Workman’s compensation
Skills & Attributes:
Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and general computer literacy
Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
Ability to work under pressure
Professional communication skills (able to handle own correspondence)
Team Player
Treat payroll and related information with highest degree of confidentiality
