Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer will assist the Quality Manager and the New Project Team to ensure that all new projects are handed over to manufacturing fully developed and that the project maturation process prior to start of production is complete. In preparation for a new project, a summary is made of all the lessons learned and reviewed with design during project initiation and concept phases to ensure that defects are eliminated through design.
You will facilitate milestone reviews based on check-list detailed activities to ensure that the project development plan is adhered to, and that exceptions are highlighted. Act as a key roleplayer in the introduction of new products to ensure a safe launch. Develop and implement processes, design changes and systems that aid in defect prevention, reduction of cost of poor quality and continuous improvement. Work mostly independently with minimal supervision.
KEY JOB FUNCTION:
Analyse and compile defect / failure data from various sources and structure and present information to format to drive design changes for elimination.
Collaborate with manufacturing support and design to determine sources of waste as well as opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvement through design and product improvements.
Conduct statistical analysis on new products as well as process capability studies to determine the capability of new / existing products.
Implement and apply sign off processes (PPAP) for new products in order to fully understand and measure the suitability, capability and durability of new products.
Compile and review RACI checklist plan for new projects.
Ensure specifications and tolerances for new products are correctly specified.
Ensure contracts with new suppliers are in place.
Ensure an approved suppliers list is implemented and followed / ensured through the implementation of the correct controls.
Ensure products are protected during transport and storage to prevent damage.
Conduct Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) to prevent potential future failures.
Compile Control plans to specify checks and controls to detect / prevent failures.
Compile Standard Operating Procedures to guide members in the correct manufacturing and assembly practices.
Verify pre-production parts through measurement and analysis to ensure all errors are eliminated prior to start of volume production.
Ensure all project steps are taken to produce a product that is ready for serial production
Improve quality, delivery & cost by quality strategy deployment, process analysis, risk management & continuous improvement.
Ensure savings targets are achieved by evaluating gaps and identifying solutions.
Implement applicable cost control programs and measures.
Compile report to management to inform the status of savings, audit trends, performance data etc.
Perform ad hoc tasks as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum qualification: Relevant National Diploma.
Ideal qualification: Relevant BSc / BTech Degree / Diploma in an Engineering fields (Mechanical, Industrial, Electric / Electronic).
At least 3 - 5 years’ as Quality Engineer in manufacturing discipline. - Ideal:
Problem solving and Automotive core tools training.
Automotive Core Tools; FMEA, APQP, MSA, SPC.
Excellent working knowledge in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
Proficient in CAD
High level of analytical ability to solve problems.
Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to prioritize.
Ability to present organised and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience.
Strong interpersonal skills and work ethic.
Create and maintain FMEA’s and Control.
Statistical process control (SPC).
Strong customer service focus both internally and externally.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Affluent in English (reading, writing and speaking).
Be flexible, adaptable, able and willing to modify activities and direction with an ever changing business environment.
Possess a professional attitude and promote the same in others.
Knowledge of boat building – Techniques and process imperative.
