My client in the electrical/engineering industry is looking for a Projects and Proposals Engineer (Drives and Automation) to join their team in Sandton.
The main purpose of the role includes the following:
Customer liaison and visits
Internal sales support
Duties & Responsibilities
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Overseeing all project requirements relating to orders from quotation to delivery.
Keeping the Contract schedule up to date.
Opening new contracts and keeping contract files up to date.
Ensuring that all contractual and delivery commitments are kept.
Contract related purchase orders, sales orders, delivery notes and invoicing.
Following up with the company factory and sub-suppliers on outstanding contract orders.
Arranging or doing inspection and testing of VSD & Soft-starter panels.
Processing Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, issue Delivery Notes and ensure that goods are invoiced once P.O.D has been received.
Ensuring that cash flow and margin targets are met.
Compiling detailed proposals and tenders that meet the client specifications.
Costing of equipment based on pricing from factory and sub-suppliers.
Ensuring that tenders and proposals meet the Company and customer’s commercial terms and conditions and technical requirements.
Internal and External Technical support:
Providing telephonic technical support for customers, Reps and company branches.
Liaising with the company where necessary.
Creating and keeping a set of master technical files up to date.
Assisting external and internal customers with technical queries.
Customer liaison and visits.
Meeting with customers to clarify enquiry specifications.
Dealing with customer queries on technical issues.
Sales Administration – assist and guide internal sales staff with meeting the customer requirements with regards to the following:
Customer’s price/availability enquiries, check stock.
Processing Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, issue Delivery Notes and ensuring that goods are invoiced once P.O.D has been received.
Liaising with Suppliers on prices/delivery of buy-outs and modifications, including responsibility for all associated documentation and follow up until supply and invoicing to customer.
Following up with factory and suppliers on outstanding orders.
Preparation of information for monthly departmental reports.
Ensuring that customer’s credit facilities are approved and assisting in resolving any payment queries.
Issuing of Internal Workshop Instructions for modification orders.
Every effort must be made to provide the product or service required by the customer and alternatives must be offered whenever applicable.
Internal sales support – to assist the internal sales staff as and when the work load requires it:
Preparing written quotations & tenders, including cost calculations, data sheets & drawings.
Ensuring prompt submission of quotations to customers and follow up independently or in liaison with responsible representative.
A recognised and relevant post matric technical qualification – BSc Electrical Engineering or Technician with N5 or T3 or S3. Alternatively practical work experience that can be proved to provide experience and knowledge suitable to execute the required job functions.
3 or more years work experience specific to projects in the Drives and Automation field.
Computer literacy – good general computer knowledge and experience as well as Windows, Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Projects.
Syspro training or experience will be an advantage.
A legal and valid driver’s licence.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including formal communications and making presentations.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
A sense of urgency with a strong customer service orientation.
Hard working, resourceful, ambitious and have excellent business acumen.
Mainly office based, but may be required to travel from time to time for customer meetings or site visits.
Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, evenings, weekends and holidays should the need arise.
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession.
