Surveillance Officer is required to act as oversight and security agent for management and clients. Observe operations for irregular activities such as unauthorized access, theft and suspicious behavior by either employees, contractors or visitors. The officer is also responsible to provide surveillance oversight of both the control room and the guarding officers to ensure that they fulfil the required duties in the manner expected. The surveillance officer is required to submit verbal and written reports of all violations and suspicious behavior to management. They also monitor establishment activities to ensure adherence to all client SLAs and company policies and procedures. Responsible for protecting the physical environments of the data center environment, defining a security risk framework and ensuring appropriate compliance, based on threat and risk management approach based on ISO/PCI standards. The surveillance officer is required to identify opportunities for improvement and assist the security team with formulating and implementing those.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct daily equipment checks. This includes verifying that all external cameras are set up and broadcasting, and that all the video storage equipment is online and functioning;
Liaise with installer/maintenance, Security Administration and IT teams to address malfunctioning surveillance equipment within the shortest reasonable timeframe.
Ensure video surveillance equipment maintenance programme exists and is executed, and for establishing and enforcing maintenance standard.
Maintain a written log of any suspicious activities observed and reported.
Ensure all surveillance client specific SLAs are met.
Extract and provide monthly SLA surveillance reports/ snap shots to the Service Delivery Manager or Service Delivery Team, within timelines.
Monitor the facilities for any suspicious behaviour, with specific focus on high risk and restricted areas.
Extract footage requested by management, clients or contractors, and follow the approved procedure in regards approval and release.
Review footage for all incidents and compile reports on all findings, within no more than 8 hours, or within SLA where <8 hours.
Monitor all security personel (Control Room and Guarding Devision), and perform minimum of a daily review of security personell manning high risk stations.
Monitor all entrances and exits to ensure guarding division is monitoring the metal detectors and thermal scanners
Conduct surveilance on all deliveries to identify any suspisious packages, or suspicious delivery behaviour.
Conduct surveillance of stock areas to ensure appropriate stock issue procedures are followed.
Conduct spot checks of key registers (who signed out the key and verify if the correct person accessed the cabinet when reviewing surveillance)
Trend analyse alerts created by the access control and video monitoring systems, with the aim to eliminate unnecessary alerts in the future and identify opportunities to develop new rules and raising it with the Head of Security for consideration for Security Administrators to implement.
Driving the implementation of new rules with the Security Administrators, on approval
Conduct sample audits on alert management gateway alerts to upskill control room officers on the reporting structure. Review the alert, the controllers response to alert, the guarding officers response and the information captured on the alart management gateway.
Monitor whatsapp groups for any high risk activities and monitor the situation via CCTV, escalate if the situation is not attended to.
Maintain daily, weekly and monthly statistics for reporting purposes as may be required
Provide a daily report of all activities that were monitored the previous day highliting all critical activities that were not attended to.
Provide monthly surveillance risk asssessment report, for discussion at EXCO
Identify and manage risks associated with access to the information assets/systems.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum 5 years Law enforcement experience.
Minimum 4 years’ working experience on surveillance equipment
Experience and competence in report writing, and ability to assist local law enforcement to compile a case docket
Experience and competence in testifing in court about any activities they observed on the system and specifications of the recording system
Experience in Vendor Management and related SLA’s (preferred)
Driver’s license and own car essential
