Actuarial Specialist: Capital and Balance Sheet Management
Moving Heads Personnel is an owner managed business and has been in operation since January 1997.
Manage the Asset-Liability risk, Liquidity and Investment risk, as well as the Solvency risks of the WIMI Life entities (in SA and in RoA).
Deliver the Pillar II/ORSA outputs for the Life entities, in line with group requirements. These outputs include Stress and Scenario testing, and the setting of the Risk Appetite (as well as the experience monitoring against the metrics).
Further develop the quantitative models.
Participation in special projects that arise which involve complex analysis, modelling, quantification and interpretation of changes in the business and regulatory changes.
These duties will support the Head: Capital and Balance Sheet Management with the responsibility for managing and reporting on the solvency and risk of the Life insurance entities (including Life and the Pan African Life entities).
Risk Assessment, Monitoring and Reporting
Active management of the Investment performance and risk, and the formulation and monitoring of appropriate hedging strategies and other risk management solutions for the Life entities.
Manage the relationship with the asset managers and advise on performance and selection of asset managers.
Asset-liability management: carry out necessary developments on the ALM models, completing the exercises for the entities and communicating the outcomes to the various stakeholders.
Drive implementation of all investment strategies.
Review risk appetite framework and update target metrics; monitoring and reporting of the actual experience against the risk appetite metrics
Carry out stress and scenario testing, on ad hoc and periodic basis, and quantify the management actions.
Identify levers of regulatory and economic capital for the life entities pan-Africa to improve capital efficiency and optimize cost of capital.
Provide capital risk measurement and monitoring capabilities forlLife entities pan-Africa.
Provide timely input to ORSA process and ensure qualitative and quantitative deliverables are of the desired standard.
Meticulous reporting to the various Executive, Board and Risk Committees.
Review methodology and perform regular calculation of the cost of capital.
Participate in due diligence projects.
Provide ad hoc assistance to senior team members as and when required.
Automation of current manual processes/calculations.
Training and mentoring junior members in the team
Excellent and detailed documentation of all the processes followed. Ensure documentation is comprehensive and updated to reflect revised processes and models
Demonstrate good project planning abilities, and meet deadlines.
Degree - BSc, BCom, BBus.Sc
Progress with actuarial exams with passes/exemptions in at least 9 CT subjects and CA1
3 years related experience working in an actuarial environment in the life assurance industry in the role of Actuarial Analyst
Proficiency in Prophet/Moses as well as SQL/VBA
Knowledge of the Long-Term Insurance Regulatory and Industry standards
Keen interest in the Financial Markets (Fixed income; equities, foreign exchange, interest derivatives, equity derivatives and money market)
SAM or Solvency II experience (calculation, analysis and reporting of risk-based regulatory and economic capital).
