My client ventures into a variety of developments that require interfacing, measurement, telemetry, communication and control in mainly the utility markets. They are seeking to employ a hardware engineer who will play a pivotal role in the creation of product in their company. The ideal candidate will have a passion for electronic engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities
The candidate must have an active interest in his / her discipline and must endeavour to continuously improve their knowledge and skills. They need to fit well into a creating team and be a pillar of strength with the HW side of the products. The successful candidate will be able to draw on a well-established circle of expertise in times of need both inside his/her discipline and outside.
Design of electronic products from concept, technology research, technical product specification, design of schematic and PCB, design of firmware/hardware interface, presenting a qualified, working, robust prototype.
Interfacing and facilitating industrial design and tooling of product plastics and enclosures.
Full spectrum qualification - bench-testing, functional testing, validation, Environmental tests, Electromagnetic Compliance, formal Certification.
Test equipment design for qualification and production
Firmware/Software Development for Microcontrollers (for testing and qualification purposes).
Qualifying and Support of the production line during pre-production setup.
Assisting Support & Repair with training and expertise
Troubleshooting, stabilisation and support of released product.
General well of HW knowledge.
University/Technikon degree in Electronic Engineering or similar.
At least 2 years (preferable 3+ years) relevant experience in hardware design of electronics.
Microcontroller design - 8-bit, 32-bit (ARM), Digital design
Basic PSU design, Analogue design
Qualification of electronics – Environmental, EMC, etc
Basic CAD capability - Protel/Altium/KiCAD/3D CAD/FreeCad
Working knowledge of firmware/software programming
Component selection and sourcing
Production and Test jigs
